How did Greece get its independence? Between 1821 and 1832 the Greek Revolution restored something that hadn’t existed for nearly four hundred years – an independent Greek state. The Ottoman Empire had wiped the last one, the Byzantine Empire, off the map in 1453 and had ruled over the Greeks ever since, but with the help of Britain, France, and Russia, Greece was able to regain its independence from the Turks.
